What is a health coach?
A health coach is a person who supports their clients in the long-term change they want to make. This is done through various techniques such as motivational interviewing, positive psychology, and transtheoretical change model, among others. Studies show that it is hard for people to make change. We know what to do–eating healthy, getting enough sleep, exercising more–but studies show that it is hard for people to make a change that will stick. A health coach will partner with a client to maximize their potential by assisting them in creating their overall vision for themselves.
What is a certified health coach?
A certified health coach is one that has demonstrated a minimum level of knowledge and competency. Certifications are obtained through the institution through which the training is held. I am currently in the process of completing my training through the ADAPT-Certified Functional Health Coaching Program through the Kresser Institute. Certification from this program qualifies the attendee to sit for the National Board of Health and Wellness exam, a national organization that established rigorous standards for health and wellness coaches.
How often should I see a health coach?
Establishing change does take time. At a minimum, I recommend sessions every other week for 3 months. This creates an environment that gives one the highest likelihood of creating the desired change outcome.
How much does this cost?
I am currently offering complimentary coaching sessions as I work towards completing my certification program.
